Impact

I have been heavily involved in the development of both the ‘body map’ and the ‘Neurofibromatosis insert’ for the Child Health Record (Red Book) these are available as supplementary pages and have bene included in a number of health regions across the UK.

My work specialises in people’s experiences of chronic conditions and in developing tools to improve people’s health related quality of life. My PhD is on representations of irritable bowel syndrome and as a Health Psychologist, I have worked both clinically and as a researcher in the field of smoking cessation. I am particularly passionate about communicating scientific concepts to lay audientce and have developed the NF File which is an information sharing resource for people with Neurofibromatosis type 1 and was funded under the Research Accelerator Grant Scheme.

My commitment to patient engagement and participation led to the development of both innovative research and knowledge exchange activities and has ensured collaborations with various charitable organisations, people with neurofibromatosis and genetic specialists. I was a founding member and trustee and member of the medical advisory board of the charity the Childhood Tumour Trust (CTT) for a number of years.
