Biography
Academic and professional qualifications
I graduated from Sheffield University with a BMedSci (Hons) degree and the Colin Stork Prize in Speech Science. In 2002 I was awarded a PhD by Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. I have since gained a PGCert in Academic Practice with Distinction and I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Other academic service (administration and management)
I am Admissions Tutor for the under-graduate and post-graduate (pre-registration) speech and language therapy programmes at MMU and First Year Tutor for the BSc(Hons) Speech Pathology and Therapy and Psychology and Speech Pathology programmes.
External examiner roles
I am an External Examiner for the BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy programme at Birmingham City University.
Prizes and awards
I was winner of the poster award at the 2012 Research Institute for Health and Social Change Annual Conference at MMU.
Membership of professional associations
I am a registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, and a member of the British Association of Clinical Linguistics.
Impact
I am currently Secretary of the Admissions Tutor Forum for pre-registration speech and language therapy programmes in the UK.
Teaching
Postgraduate teaching
In collaboration with Dr Sue Barry, I deliver CPD courses in phonetics for speech and language therapists.
Research outputs
My research interests include coarticulation, the acoustic analysis of speech, and phonetic transcription.
