My profile

Biography

I am a senior lecturer lecturing in the Department of Social Care and Social Work. I primarily lecture on the nationally delivered Degree Apprenticeship programme for health and social care management professionals. This programme is delivered jointly by the Business School and Faculty of Health and Education and is a practice- focused leadership programme for early career leaders.

Gender Equality Scholarship

As a gender scholar, I am interested in examining the positioning of women in individual, interactional, institutional and intersectional perspectives, often using Foucault’s panoptic model of surveillance as a theoretical lens for my work. I often research domestic abuse also.

Physical Education Research

As a secondary focus for my work, and as an ex-Physical Education teacher, I am also interested in exploring Physical Education experiences for both teachers and students. My work has previously covered multi-faceted and complex topics like why by the age of seven girls are less active than boys, and why this disparity widens as they move from childhood to adolescence.
