I’m a sociologist and registered nurse with expertise in the social and interdisciplinary dimensions of health and care. I’ve worked on a range of funded research and knowledge exchange projects, all of which involved working with and understanding the experience of a diverse range of stakeholders.
My approach to research and knowledge exchange combines sociological and anthropological theory, ethnography, and co-production. My teaching addresses leadership, policy, integrated care, evidence-based practice, and global public health. I am Director of Studies for eight doctoral candidates.
My recent publications in leading international (upper quartile) journals address mutual-aid and community-based support, seldom-heard communities, global mental health, disability, and policy. Internationally, I collaborate with colleagues in Uganda and Brazil with projects for disenfranchised communities.
I represent our department on the Faculty Ethics Governance committee. I am a Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute, a member of the European Association of Social Anthropologists, a Nursing and Midwifery Council registrant, and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
I was previously Professional Chair of the NW People in Research PPI forum, and I remain actively engaged in public involvement through my research and teaching and contribute regularly to peer review for journals and funding agencies.
