Biography
Academic and professional qualifications
I am a Senior Lecturer in the School of Physiotherapy committed to promoting a learning environment that is supportive and inclusive to a diverse group of students. I am also the Programme Leader and Examination Officer for the MSc Advanced Physiotherapy (Post-graduate) with the responsibility for ensuring quality provision for teaching, learning and assessments. My area of specialism is in the musculoskeletal arena, in which I have brought a wealth of clinical experience having worked in both the NHS and the private sector. In addition to the UK, I have also worked in Canada and New Zealand. My research themes are health and well-being with expertise in active and healthy ageing, community engagement, public health promotion and models of care that support population health and well-being. I have a particular interest in promoting the physical and psychosocial well-being of older adults and exploring ways to optimise community environments that support this endeavour. I also have a passion for championing innovation and positive change within the physiotherapy profession.

I have taken part on an Erasmus Staff exchange to Basel University, Switzerland 21-25th of May 2014. As a reasult of this I have I have developed both teaching and research collaborative opportunities for the Physiotherapy Programme
I am involved in developing a Bridging Course Distance learning programme – Research Methods for both national students and internationally.

My research areas are concerned with the promotion of physical health and psychosocial wellbeing of people with long-term conditions and older adults. I have a particular interest in community initiatives that foster and support citizens to self-manage their health conditions in the community. I have previously conducted collaborative research with social enterprises that, through innovative practice, support people with long-term physical and mental health conditions to live fulfilling and meaningful lives in their community. I have also collaborated with the local government to promote community physical activity groups for older adults.
