My profile

Biography

I have worked for 12 years in a range of secondary schools in the Manchester area and progressed to the role of Assistant Headteacher before joining the secondary mathematics team at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2008. Since joining MMU I have continued to develop ways of delivering teacher training by being involved in a variety of pilot programmes. These have included more recently iTeach and the University schools model.

I teach on a variety of programmes. These include the BA in education, the PGCE 1 year course, as well as the 6 and 9 month Mathematics Enhancement Courses. I also teach on the MaST programme and the Masters programme for NQT’s. As well as working alongside those who are aspiring to join the profession, I also work with teachers in a variety of secondary schools to develop their mathematical pedagogy. This is on the ‘Teaching Advanced Mathematics’ course which is for teachers who are teaching A-Level and need to secure their subject knowledge at this level as well as developing pedagogy.

I have recently had my research work published in collaboration with her colleagues in a chapter called “How do mathematics teaching enhancement programmes work? Re-thinking agency in regulative times.” Which appears in ‘Farnsworth & Solomon (eds) Reframing Educational Research: resisting the ‘what works’ agenda, Routledge’
