Biography

I have been qualified as a physiotherapist for over thrty years and worked in a variety of places.  Being a physiotherapist has given me the opportunity to travel widely and I have made a number of good friends around the world.  When I am not working I like mountain walking and have climbed all the Scottish Munros.

Other distinctions

In 2015 I was awarded a Doctor of Science (DSc) from the University of Central Lancashire for a thesis titled
“Research in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy: Providing Evidence for Practice”; this was only the second award of a DSc to a Physiotherapist in the world.

In 2008 I was awarded a Fellowship of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (Fellowship number = 177: CSP founded in
1884)

My research falls into three areas of musculoskeletal
physiotherapy these are,

  • Patellofemoral/Knee Pain (Knee cap pain and dysfunction)
  • Red Flags/ (early identification of serious pathology in patients with back pain)
  • Thermal Imaging (cooling methods for injuries and rehabilitation)
