Pura Ariza

Before joining MMU in 2002, I worked for eight years in secondary schools as a teacher of French and Spanish, and later a teacher of SEN. During this time I worked on a number of local authority projects, including curriculum development for SEN and training for FLAs. I have taught in ITE and CPD on the primary, secondary and masters courses at MMU. I have also co-ordinated the TDA-funded European Primary Exchange Programme, which included teaching and supervision of primary MFL trainee teachers on placement in France and Spain (2003-2010). I was a research fellow on the DfES project on provision in Key Stage 2 (2003- 2004), and a project manager on the HEFCE-funded ‘Community and Lesser Taught Languages Project’ 2007-2011, jointly leading the teacher-training element of this which won the European Award for Languages 2010. I was a joint project-manager on the Refugee-Council Funded project Refugees into Teaching” (2010-2011)

My research interests include bilingual learners and equality in education. I have been a member of The National Centre for Languages (CILT) advisory group on community languages and have contributed on promoting equality through the MFL curriculum.

I currently teach on the Secondary PGCE  Programme, co-ordinating Professional Practice modules and   providing Masters dissertation supervision.

I am an active trade unionist.
