Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) is one of the UK’s largest and most popular universities with academic roots dating back to the early nineteenth century.
We are based at six campuses, five in Manchester and one in Crewe, known as MMU Cheshire. The central Manchester campuses form part of the largest higher education campus in the UK and one of the most extensive education centres in Europe.
The Impact of MMU on the North West
MMU is a major economic contributor to the North West, with 34,000 students, 4,300 staff and an income of £236 million. MMU’s financial impact on the region totals £690 million and is rising*.
We pride ourselves on training the future talent of the region as 70% of our graduates stay and work in the North West.
We work in partnership across the region, with 45% of our courses having links with our community. We provide a range of services to the local community including real-world research, events and sporting facilities.

Research
MMU is one of the top performing new universities in the UK in terms of its research profile. Our work informs curriculum developments, shapes business and professional practice and influences policy-making, both nationally and internationally.
MMU sits within the top five per cent of UK universities for exercise and sport science and within the top 12 per cent for materials science. It is ranked fourth among research-active new universities in attracting support from the Higher Education Funding Council for England.
