Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) is one of the UK’s largest and most popular universities with academic roots dating back to the early nineteenth century.

We are based across two campuses, one in Manchester and one in Cheshire. The central Manchester campus forms part of the largest higher education campus in the UK and one of the most extensive education centres in Europe.

The Impact of MMU on the North West

MMU is a major economic contributor to the North West, with 34,000 students and 4,300 staff.

We pride ourselves on training the future talent of the region as 70% of our graduates stay and work in the North West.

We work in partnership across the region, with 45% of our courses having links with our community. We provide a range of services to the local community including real-world research, events and sporting facilities.

MMU is one of the top performing new universities in the UK in terms of its research profile. Our work informs curriculum developments, shapes business and professional practice and influences policy-making, both nationally and internationally.

100% of impact in Health, Education, Sociology, English and History was rated world-leading or internationally-excellent. We are the top ‘new’ university for the power of health research and 12th out of 94 for UK universities overall. We are in the top 20 UK universities for the quality of our Sociology research. We are ranked 16th out of 82 UK universities for the quality of our impact in History research.*
