ABOUT MY CAREER

I decided to read law in the United Kingdom in order to broaden my horizons and challenge myself. Having completed my law degree, I then decided to study the Bar Professional Training Course at Manchester Met. It was one of the few providers that provided more exposure to advocacy training than its counterparts. This was a quality that I found essential in order to realise my goal of pursuing a career in legal practice.

As soon as I graduated from Manchester Met, I commenced my pupillage at Thomas Philip Advocates & Solicitors in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Upon completion of my pupillage, I was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor in Malaysia. I was then retained to practice law as an Associate at Thomas Philip Advocates & Solicitors.

I am currently a Principal Associate at Thomas Philip Advocates & Solicitors. I maintain a multi-disciplinary dispute resolution practice in commercial, corporate and property law where I represent a wide range of clients including multinational corporations, Malaysian companies and private individuals as counsel in all tiers of courts in the Malaysian Judiciary.

During my studies, I gained practical case analysis, drafting and advocacy skills which I use on a daily basis. These skills enable me to prepare and advance all manners of complex and novel cases before the Malaysian courts.

Since graduating, I have continued to undergo yearly continued professional development programmes offered by the Malaysian Bar such as attending training courses and seminars.

MY TOP TIP FOR STUDENTS IS

Always look for opportunities to expand your outlook and learn something new. This can be done by participating in conferences, training programmes or even collaborating with more experienced senior counsel. The realities of sustaining a career at the Bar demands constant evolution and that is best reached through having an open mind and a commitment to constant learning.

I’M INSPIRED BY

My colleagues who are innovative and constantly trying to push the boundaries of what it means to be a legal practitioner in Malaysia.

WHY I LOVE MANCHESTER MET

I appreciated the collegiate way the BPTC was taught during my time at Manchester Met. Most classes were small group sessions which allowed for focused learning and more targeted training.
