About my career

Manchester Metropolitan University provides a part-time study method for law with HKU SPACE. It gives me a very good chance to learn a new subject without hindering my daytime job. Also, Manchester Metropolitan has a very long and positive history of organising such a part-time law programme in Hong Kong.

Since this is not my first degree, I got my current job, as lecturer in Chinese Medicine, when I started studying law. Although I have worked in Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) for a number of years as an instructor in Chinese Medicine, I got the chance to be promoted as lecturer during my first year of study of the law programme. The law programme may not be directly related to my current job, but I believe the knowledge from this programme did strengthen my resume to obtain the role.

I am now a lecturer in the School of Chinese Medicine. My main duty is teaching undergraduate students, as well as research and giving outpatient consultation as I am a Chinese medicine practitioner in Hong Kong.

Everyday life is law. I believe logical thinking taught on the law programme was the skill that I apply most in my career. Legal knowledge is also very useful for my management duties. Logical legal thinking, especially the idea of legal evidence, helps me to deal with problems in a more reasonable manner.

As well as my Manchester Metropolitan qualifications, I have a doctoral degree, three masters degrees and one double bachelor degree.

My top tip for students

Generalists are more important than professionals nowadays. Try to learn more useful knowledge besides your main subject. Opportunities are for people who are prepared.

My inspiration

I am inspired by the idea of law. People are quick to interrupt but we have to maintain a fair and impartial manner.

Why I loved most about Manchester Met

The full support of teachers, tutors, alumni and all-rounded studying materials help us complete the course while working full-time.
