About my career

I am currently the Vice-Principal of a secondary school in Hong Kong. I am in charge of the Student Development Division, Head of Global Citizenship and Head of Moral & Civic Education.

When I was studying the CPE and the LLB (joint programmes offered by Manchester Metropolitan and HKU SPACE), I served as the Vice-Principal of a Secondary School in Hong Kong. I was in-charge of Teaching and Learning and Curriculum Development, School Relations and Staff Development. Being a Teacher Manager of the school management, I had the vision to enhance my understanding of common law practices, contract, tort, trust, etc. These modules are valuable and closely relevant to my expertise and competence in school administration and management. In addition, the delivery on Hong Kong constitutional law greatly enhanced my expertise and knowledge of the constitutional development and common law practice in Hong Kong. It facilitated me to develop curriculum on Liberal Studies education and Basic Law education. 

My professional knowledge of legal studies facilitated me to take up a leading role in educational administration and management at a tertiary institution. For instance, the contract, tort, insurance, publication issues are closely related to legal skills and expertise. I served as the Project Manager and School Development Officer of the Jockey Club “Giftedness Into Flourishing Talents” Project at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. I led my team to provide intensive school-based support to local primary and secondary schools in various areas (school development, curriculum development, teachers’ professional development, student development, as well as parent empowerment) on gifted education and provisions. In addition, I led my teammates to prepare publications like the Learning and Teaching Resource Package and Teacher’s Manual and Guidelines on gifted education for local schools.

Critical thinking skills, Hong Kong constitutional law and common law cases are the skills from my course that have been most useful and essential to my current career. The LLB course has equipped me with the skills and competence in school administration and management relating to legal issues. What is more, my horizons have been widened that I am enriched to develop and promote the curriculum development on Liberal Arts, Liberal Studies and Basic Law education at school.

My top tip for students is

Earning a law degree not only enhances your legal competence to enter the legal profession, it enriches your CV, widens your horizons, and sharpens your critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills. These are essential generic skills to all professions. 

I’m inspired by

I am inspired by the professional recognition and proven track record of equipping students with expertise and skills of pursuing their career dreams in legal and other professions. As such, since 2016, I have joined the Alumni Mentorship Programme which really offers valuable academic and career support to the law students. Most importantly, it fosters to promote a learning community among students and strengthens the bond between the alumni and the University.
