About me

About my career

I have just commenced my training as a trainee solicitor at ELLALAN, which is a mid-size boutique law firm in Hong Kong that specialises in intellectual property (IP) with strong focus in the fashion and luxury, technology, entertainment and life science sectors.

I am a trainee solicitor. I have to complete a two-year training to qualify as a solicitor in Hong Kong. My main responsibility is assisting the team in the provision of legal services to clients. Since ELLALAN specialises in IP work, there is additional training in trademark, patent, copyright, licensing & franchising, IP litigation, IP enforcement and commercial IP advisory throughout my traineeship. I enjoy working with my team as they come from different backgrounds and many of them have substantial international firm experience.

The main skill I gained throughout my legal studies at Manchester Met is time management. I also learned to become a resilient and agile person. As a trainee, I need to prioritise tasks given by different fee earners and finish them within the deadline. Even though my teammates are all very friendly and helpful, I cannot always rely on them for answers but to conduct research, try to resolve the problem and find solutions by myself.

Manchester Met’s legal courses are well designed for people who want to expand legal knowledge and look for a promising career prospect in the legal field. The GDEHKL course and LLB (Hons) degree provide students with a fast track, to get exempted from conversion examinations than any other English law degree, to complete all the PCLL prerequisite requirements and to get a running start of the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) programme right after graduation. For a person who wants to start a second career, Manchester Met has provided all I need.

I am planning to study an LLM in mediation and alternative dispute resolution after completing my traineeship.

My top tip for students

Never underestimate your strength, never overestimate your weakness.

I’m inspired by

The teaching staff in Manchester Met who always gave me unlimited support and encouragement during my legal studies.

Why I love Manchester Met

What I liked about the Manchester Met course the most was its long-established history and excellent academic track record to get into PCLL. When I had the will, they provided me with a way.
