ABOUT MY CAREER

I have always aspired to do my master’s in sports management. I chose to study in England because the ecosystem created for higher education is unmatched and Manchester Met offered tailored modules and clear communication from professors. I gained research skills during my course that helped me develop my critical thinking skills. This helped me become a detail-oriented person, which makes me stand out as an individual.  Also, I got the opportunity to play for the Futsal Club and I take pride in the fact that I have represented Manchester Met in their Futsal Club.

I’m currently in my first graduate job as an insurance advisor. I was successful in securing this position through networking in various ways. I was in continuous contact with the careers team who helped me with my CV and cover letter. I cannot thank the careers team enough. They helped me with resources that were tailor made for international students. I also did an internship within the university (Manchester Community Consulting). This helped me gain technical knowledge about project management and helped me in securing my current position.

As an insurance advisor, I advise new clients about company products, answer queries, refer new clients to other brokers to complete policies, conduct research, speak with prospective clients and shadow senior brokers to learn about sales approaches.

Since graduating, I have continued to develop my career by deepening my knowledge of football scouting. I did my FA Level 1 in Talent Identification to enhance my career progression. I also did my NVQ Level 2 in Spectator Safety and Crowd Management under Manchester City FC. And, as a part of my current role, I am being trained in a ‘Sales Masterclass’ to develop my skills even further.

MY TOP TIP FOR STUDENTS IS

I would say you should do what you love doing, and not run after something based on opinions or what others are doing.

Additionally, a CV and cover letter is the first point of contact between a candidate and an employer. You should have a personalised CV and cover letter for each job role you apply for. That will make a lot of difference to your application.

I’M INSPIRED BY

I am inspired by decades of alumni success stories from Manchester Met. I feel lucky to have such a strong network of professionals created by my alma mater.

WHY I LOVE MANCHESTER MET

The unmatched support from my Manchester Met futsal coach, fellow teammates (even when I got injured) and classmates made me fall in love with the University.
