About me

  • Teacher of PE, Corby Business Academy
  • Studied: BA (Hons) Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy, 2018

About my career

My first job role after university was as a teaching assistant with specialeducational needs and disabilities pupils. I got this job by applying online and having an interview. Now, I am a newly-qualified physical education (PE) teacher and my main responsibilities are teaching PE, BTEC Dance and developing our sports leadership programme.

The skills I gained at Manchester Met and which I’ve used most in my career are my knowledge of sport and pedagogy and an ability to use critical thinking in my job. Also, my confidence to apply myself. While I was a student, I accessed the Common Purpose Leadership programme. This helped me a lot in becoming confident and improved my leadership skills.

After graduating, I did a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) and I’ve taken continuing professional development and first aid training at work.

My top tip for students is

There are going to be some jobs that don’t want you. For example, McDonald’s rejected me in my second year of university. Be patient and keep trying. Motivation and determination are key. There is a job out there for everyone.

I’m inspired by

My own learning. I love finding out new knowledge and seeing it succeed.

Why I love Manchester Met

I appreciated the time and effort of my lecturers, especially Rachel and David. They worked so hard with my year and I am forever grateful.
