John Callow of the Northern Wine School led the Champagne Bureau masterclass where students had the opportunity to learn about the worldwide champagne industry, how the drink is produced and the many champagne houses and vineyards that make and distribute the luxury beverage.
Students were able to taste a variety of champagnes while learning about the correct methods of pouring and serving champagne in the hospitality environment.
As students are preparing for careers in the hospitality sector, Mr Callow stressed the importance of being knowledgeable about the champagne industry if they are seeking careers in food and beverage management. Students also had the chance to learn more about the different Wine and Spirit Education Trust qualifications, and how these can help to differentiate graduates in a competitive employment market.
The Champagne Bureau Masterclass is one of a series of student experiences that students on the hospitality business management degree benefit from to ensure their learning is enhanced with real industry insights.
Amanda White, Course Leader for the BA (Hons) Hospitality Business Management course said “We were delighted to welcome John from the Northern Wine School to the Business School and thank him for coming in to speak to our students. We work hard to ensure the teaching on our hospitality business management degree is closely linked to industry and our students have as many opportunities as possible to learn about current industry trends and network with hospitality experts.”
