Professor Ruth Ashford has been appointed Dean and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of MMU Business School, taking over from Prof Huw Morris.

Ruth, who was awarded a personal Chair in Marketing Education by the University's professoriate panel earlier this month, was previously Head of Marketing and Retail at MMUBS.

With the new £65 million Business School due to open in 2012, Ruth will lead the faculty of 5,000 students and 250 staff during an exciting time in its history.

New courses, secured funding and corporate links

After completing her degree in Business Education at MMU, Ruth joined the University as a lecturer in 1993. Initially based at MMU Cheshire, Ruth moved to the Business School in 1999.

Over the past decade Ruth has been responsible for developing and launching nine new postgraduate and undergraduate programmes, the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Student Chapter and CIM Linked programmes at MMUBS.

In addition to providing marketing teaching and dissertation supervision, as the Head of Marketing and Retail Ruth managed a £1.5m budget, a £2.7m research centre and led academic enterprise projects with the GMSA and corporate clients including Tesco and the Co-operative Group that brought in over £1m.

Honoured and excited

Ruth said: "I am honoured and extremely excited to take up this unique position with the major opportunities afforded with the relocation to the 'intelligent' new Business School building in 2012.

“As a passionate advocate for business education and applied business research I know that, despite the challenging Higher Education environment, at MMUBS there will be amazing times ahead for the students, colleagues and organisations in our new building.”

Ruth is currently Chair of the Academy of Marketing and a CIM Senator.
