OMANI student Sulaiman Khamis Mohammed Al Jahwari has won the inaugural International Student of the Year award at the Business School.

Sulaiman, who is studying for an MSc in Human Resource Management, was presented with the award by the Head of the Management Department, Diane Wright. Sulaiman's family were present to watch him receive the award.

Maryam Herin, one of the Human Resource Management academic team who nominated Sulaiman for the award, said that it was the way Sulaiman studied so hard whilst facilitating study groups amongst the other students that made him such a good student. This encouraged discussion of current topics and increased students’ confidence.

“He stood out to us as a student, he was studying in a foreign language and he had a solid academic record, but he also helped other students in the class. He hosted study groups, to get the students together. Lecturers give support to students when they are here – but Sulaiman helped me to help others, and that was excellent.”

Sulaiman said that he felt honoured to receive his award: “I am very proud to even be elected as the best international student – since there are so many people here from so many countries. It has felt like a reward for all the hard work I have done over the last year.  MMU has helped me to achieve all of that – through academic support and the facilities, as well as the open minded nature over here.”

Sulaiman is finishing his dissertation at the moment, after which he will return to Oman to continue with various areas of business development.
