Professor to advise Irish government

Professor John Hooker has been appointed as a consultant by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development for Northern Ireland.

He will sit on the new agri-food research and education advisory panel which provides expert advice to the Department on agri-food policy and comprises academics and business figures.

Professor Hooker, Head of MMU’s Department of Environmental and Geographical Sciences, is an expert in agri-environmental development and before joining MMU in September 2004 headed up the research management unit at the Environmental and Rural Affairs Department in Scotland.

Professor Hooker, whose PhD is in plant microbe interactions, is a member of the Natural Environment Research Council's Science and Innovation Strategy Board.
