The department’s teaching and research expertise spans strategy, international business, innovation, enterprise, entrepreneurship and sustainability as well as human resource management, organisational behaviour and sports management.
Our staff, who combine academic and commercial expertise, are committed to helping our students become ethical and enterprising professionals. Our staff are active in their professions with many holding qualifications from professional bodies and broad experience of working across a number of businesses.
The department works closely with the University’s start-up incubator Innospace, the Centre for Enterprise and the Careers Hub to maximise our students’ potential, to realise their self-employment ambitions and to enhance their career prospects.
The department offers a broad programme portfolio spanning chartered management degree apprenticeships, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, in addition to research degrees and post-experience professional development.
Staff provide academic leadership for executive programmes, which include our MBA and pioneering Masters in Sports Directorship.
Renowned for its links to business and professional bodies, the department is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and enjoys close relationships with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).
We have also established links with the Institute of Directors and the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (IOEE), resulting in course content that meets the needs of today’s business environment and enhances our students’ management career opportunities.
Through its research, teaching and consultancy, the department has strong ties to other universities and organisations. Staff within the department have a strong research focus, embedded in the activities of a number of research centres, such as the Centre for International Business and Innovation and the Centre for People and Performance. Specialist research clusters exist in areas including business of sport, work psychology and creativity and entrepreneurship, demonstrating the wealth of knowledge on offer to our students, society and the wider business community.
