We have specifically designed it for the hundreds of businesses we have worked with over the last decade and is our way of deepening our relationship with you, helping you to achieve more than you ever thought possible.

Alumni Overview

The Manchester Met Business Alumni Network will provide a sound base for your business growth, and the creation of a thriving network of entrepreneurs in the North West of England. 

We will provide members of our network with a truly valuable experience, combining market-leading business support and development events combined with excellence in academic achievement. 

Our range of activities over the next year maintains an effective balance between education and social events while also encouraging broader involvement with our ever-growing network. Our range of exclusive activities is already extensive and will continue to grow. As a result, members can find what suits them best, but also have the scope to get involved in all kinds of new events and initiatives. Alternatively, it might be to explore business opportunities with a group of like-minded entrepreneurs and compare notes on how best to tackle unexpected challenges or tough management dilemmas.

6 short half-day programmes of CPD

  • Key Managements Chops - Delivered on a super practical basis, this -half-day workshop will show a method for breaking strategy down into objectives and then action.  Then it will look at how to manage both the participants themselves in their teams to achieve strategy imperative tasks.
  • How to Build a Compelling Brand - Brand is possibly the most misunderstood thing in business.  This workshop will show you how to design a brand that will help you create customers and revenue.
  • Digital Marketing on a Shoestring - A “How To” session for those businesses that have tried digital marketing and would like to get better results without spending a fortune
  • Building Staff Engagement - Our team are our most valuable asset, they create our sales, serve our customers, and help us create our thriving businesses.  Keeping our staff engaged and inspired can be tricky and time-consuming.  Come and learn how to keep your engine firing on all cylinders.
  • How to Bring a Product to Market Quickly - Learn how to use the “Effectuation” method to rapidly turn ideas into products and then bring them to a ready and willing market.
  • Business Model Canvas - A strategic management and lean start up template for developing new or documenting existing business models, It is a visual chart with elements describing a firm's or product's value proposition, infrastructure, customers, and finances.  It assists firms in aligning their activities by illustrating potential trade-offs.

Learn and take inspiration from successful entrepreneurs sharing their personal stories and their practical and effective know-how

Peer2Peer Mentoring Scheme

A voluntary Peer2Peer mentoring scheme, whereby our more established and long-standing SMEs provide P2P mentoring to smaller less established enterprises.

There will be a competitive process to become both a mentor and mentee.  MMU will act as facilitator matching mentor and mentee who will then be in contact for 6 months.

P2P mentoring would be a great opportunity for business to access and support of someone who has experience, insights and hindsight.  Many of our businesses are keen to share their knowledge they have gained and lessons they have learned.

The mentor/mentee will dedicate their time to building a mentor-mentee relationship that will enable them to:

  • Gain an insight into different roles, organisations and sectors
  • Access information and advice from experienced professionals
  • Discuss expectations, anxieties and concerns in a confidential environment
  • Network and make new contacts

Individuals can be both a mentor and mentee simultaneously.
