Entry with advanced standing

If your qualifications are relevant to the MSc you would like to study, you may be eligible for ‘entry with advanced standing’.

Achieve a Masters in a short timeframe

This entry route gives academic credit for your current qualifications. Consequently, you need only study selected units to achieve an MSc in a shorter timeframe.

Lower tuition fees

The tuition fees for this route are also lower because you only pay for the units you need to take, rather than having to study all the units for the MSc.

For example, an MSc involves 180 credits of study. With the ‘advanced standing’ route, we can give you up to 90 credits for many professional qualifications and up to 120 credits for a Postgraduate Diploma.

The courses that offer an ‘advanced standing’ option are:

Eligibility and course options

If your current postgraduate or professional qualifications are relevant to the MSc you would like to study, you may be eligible for ‘entry with advanced standing’. If you are eligible for entry with advanced standing, you would apply for the course with advanced standing from the course e-prospectus page, which can be found at www.mmu.ac.uk/courses.

Taught units
Student with less than 90 credits exemption will also be required to complete taught units. Exactly which unit(s) and when these can be studied should be discussed with the course leader of the award you are aiming for.

The table below lists the university and professional qualifications that we can provide academic credit for and the units that need to be studied to achieve an MSc.

If you have postgraduate level qualifications and/or experience that are not listed below you may still be considered for entry using our Accreditation of Prior Learning Scheme. In this case you should contact the course leader of the award you are aiming for.

Time commitment

All courses can be studied part-time and there is a strong focus on applying your studies to your workplace. The number of study days will vary depending on how many units you need to take and the type of units you are studying. For example, if you only need to take a dissertation to supplement your current qualifications to an MSc, you will attend the dissertation workshops and then arrange one-to-one meetings with your supervisor at mutually convenient dates and times.
