Employers are increasingly seeking graduates who can demonstrate work experience, so gaining placement experience is a great opportunity for you to communicate to employers that you have been able to apply what you have learned on your degree into a real business context.
If you decide to take a placement, you will begin to look for and apply for placement positions in your second year and carry out your placement in your third year, before returning to your final year of study in your fourth year.
How do I find a placement?
The placement must be a minimum of 36 weeks but will usually last for 12 months and takes place after your second year of study. The Business School Placement Team will support you to secure a placement, however it is your responsibility to be proactive and apply for relevant placement opportunities.
The placement jobs market is very competitive. We therefore recommend that you start researching companies and opportunities during your first year and apply for positions from the start of your second year.
The Business School Placements Team have excellent links with placement employers and offer a wide range of support and activities to students’ seeking placements throughout the year including Placement Wednesdays (employer presentations), one-to-one advice and an annual placements fair on campus.
