  • Joining our community

We are committed to making sure you get the most out of your time at university, enjoying every minute of your studies and building life and employability skills while you make new friends.

During Welcome Week you will connect with course mates, learn about the resources and support our University offers you and get to know our home city.

Through your Students’ Union, you can meet people who share your interests and join student-led clubs and societies to try out new hobbies and experiences.

Visit the Union’s website to find out about volunteering opportunities in our local community and learn new skills by signing up to our Rise Programme. Its courses, events and activities will earn you credits towards your degree.

  • Innovative teaching, learning and assessments

We are committed to providing you with innovative teaching and learning as well as a dedicated personal tutor to help you to navigate university life.

We continuously update our curriculum so that our programmes reflect the latest research and practice from industry.

You will receive regular feedback on where you are doing well and how you can improve. We will also provide advice and guidance to help you prepare for assessments.

Your personal tutor will support your academic, personal and professional development throughout your studies.

  • Learning support and resources

We are committed to maintaining an inclusive learning environment for our students.

Before you start your course, look out for advice from your programme leaders on how to prepare, so that you hit the ground running.

During your induction you will learn how to enrol and find out about your personalised timetable and our study skills support. You can sign up for help with academic writing, numeracy, preparing for assessments and for specific learning difficulties through one-to-one appointments, live webinars or online.

When you join us, you will also be invited to pair up with a second or final year student who will act as a PAL (Peer Assisted Learning) to settle you into university life.

  • Supporting your physical and mental health

We are committed to supporting your physical and mental health while you study with us.

Exercise has huge benefits for everyone. Whatever your fitness level, you can join our free classes through Active Campus or get involved in our sports teams and clubs.

Our Counselling, Mental Health, and Wellbeing Services offer wellbeing courses and workshops that are open to every student. Our Chaplaincy provides pastoral advice and quiet places to pray or reflect.

You can also access Togetherall a free, safe online space, monitored by trained professionals, to talk anonymously to other students 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

You may also wish to access support from our disability support team and inclusion services.

  • Your voice matters

We are committed to providing you with regular opportunities to share your views to help us make improvements to our courses and wider student experience.

The Unit Surveys capture your ideas on how we could enhance your course, or you can talk to Student Course Reps who work directly with academic and support staff.

The Union also makes sure your voice is heard. Elected Student Officers bring your suggestions and concerns to relevant University committees.

The BAME Ambassador Scheme is a student-led collaboration between The Union and Manchester Met to improve the student experience and close the awarding gap for Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic (BAME) students. BAME Ambassadors develop and deliver campaigns and events for students and share your views with university staff and The Union to influence positive change on campus.
