The Manchester Writing School at Manchester Met, the International Anthony Burgess Foundation, and Comma Press are delighted to present Gregory Norminton, launching his latest book The Ghost Who Bled, with special guest Lara Williams.
Gregory Norminton’s novels include The Ship of Fools, Arts and Wonders, Ghost Portrait and Serious Things. Other books include The Lost Art of Losing, Thumbnails and Beacons – stories for our not so distant future (as editor). He is a Lecturer in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University. The Ghost Who Bled is published by Comma Press in September 2016: "A simple act of gallantry in the Malaysian jungle spawns a lifelong feud in the Home Counties… A fading actor with a terminal illness devises a meticulous plan to leave the stage in style… A pregnant composer contemplates motherhood at the end of civilisation…"
Lara Williams writes fiction, features, essays, reviews, arts journalism and is a social media and digitial professional. She is a graduate of the Manchester Writing School's MA Creative Writing programme and her debut short story collection, Treats, was published Spring 2016 with Freight Books. She has written features, essays and criticism for The Guardian, G2, The Independent, NME, Grazia, The Skinny and Manchester Evening News.
Manchester Writing is a series designed to explore the techniques authors use and choices they make when writing, and debate issues arising from their work. Greogory and Lara will be reading from and talking about their work and in conversation answering questions from the audience. The evening will open with short readings by students from the Manchester Writing School at Manchester Met. Drinks will be available to purchase from the bar, and there’ll be a special bookstall, with signing after the event.
