About My Degree

My degree is very writer-oriented – by which I mean that my tutors are writers, my classmates are writers, and the seminars are a perfect environment for developing writing skills. Everyone is very friendly and open-minded, which is brilliant.

What is your top tip for other students looking to study this course at Manchester Metropolitan University?

Talk to people! There is no resource more valuable than a group of friends to bounce ideas off of. Creativity starves in isolation – the more fresh perspectives you have, the better your work will become, and you can avoid that pesky writer’s block.

Secondly – don’t be afraid of your writing! Remember that this course is meant to bring out the unique writer in you, so feel free to experiment. Nobody will judge you for trying something new.

Please complete this sentence: ‘I’m inspired by…’

…everything around me! A writer has to be open to their surroundings, and to realise that inspiration is everywhere, in every single one of their senses. It’s very difficult to just sit down, get into 'writing mode', and come up with ideas – you have to do it while you’re out with friends, reading, watching a movie, or even in the shower!

What do you love about Manchester Met?

The range of student resources – there’s someone to help with whatever problem you might be having, and a society to suit whatever your interests are.
