Alumni are helping us transform the lives of first generation students
Regular telephone appeals are part of Alumni and Development’s engagement activities with our graduate community.
A team of students, trained by Alumni and Development, took to the phones in March to speak to graduates about our exciting new University campaign, First Generation. Students asked alumni if they are able to support this new scheme to help young people who will be the first generation in their family to go to university. Our Student Callers also talked to graduates about their time here, what they have been doing since graduation and about other ways in which they can stay involved with the University.
Thanks to the generosity of former students during this most recent phone appeal, nine first generation students will begin their complete student journey of support in 2018. Many other alumni have registered their interest to support students by volunteering their time and expertise by becoming First Generation Alumni Mentors.
If you took the time to speak to one of our students, thank you. If you were able to make a gift to the campaign, or have volunteered your time and expertise to support First Generation students, thank you. Your support is inspirational to current and future students and is greatly appreciated by the University.
"My role as a student caller has been such an interesting experience. Speaking to alumni has given me an insight into the wide variety of careers that they have succeeded in, following their degree, as well as gaining some career advice myself! It is so rewarding to see the impact that gifts from alumni have upon future and present students."
