How to book

Graduate tickets are free of charge. We will confirm the opening and closing dates of the booking system in due course.

You will receive your invitation to book via email in mid-April and you are advised to book your place as soon as you receive this, as ceremony bookings may close early due to capacity restrictions. If your ceremony is full, we will offer you the option of attending an alternative ceremony

When booking, you can also request up to two free guest tickets. You must book a ticket for all guests, including children of all ages. Although we work hard to make ceremonies as welcoming and inclusive as possible, the nature and duration of the ceremonies may make them unsuitable for babies and young children.

On top of the two free guest tickets each graduate is eligible for, we know many graduates are keen for their friends and wider family to attend graduation ceremonies. As The Bridgewater Hall has limited capacity, we are not able to offer additional guest tickets to everyone. Please note there is no guarantee we will be able to fulfill all requests for additional guest tickets. More information about additional guest ticket availability will be available in due course.

Alternatively, we will have a ceremony live stream available to watch online or on campus in SODA G1.12.

  • Graduation booking invitations

Booking invitations will be sent to both student and personal email accounts from mid-April.

Please book your place as soon as you receive your invitation. Please note that ceremony bookings may close early due to capacity restrictions. If your ceremony is full, we will offer you the option of attending an alternative ceremony.

Please check your junk or spam folders to ensure our emails are not being treated as spam, and make our email address a safe contact: noreply@ceremonies.mmu.ac.uk.

If you don’t receive your invitation email by 18 April and you believe that you are eligible to attend a ceremony, email the graduation team as soon as possible at gradinfo@mmu.ac.uk. In your email, include:

    • the subject line —Graduation Class of 2024 invitation not received
    • your student ID number

We can’t discuss a student’s account or graduation with anyone other than the student, due to General Data Protection Regulations (this includes parents and guardians). Graduating students must contact us directly.

    Deadline for booking

All students must register to attend their ceremony by 4:00pm on 24 May 2024.

Attendance is not guaranteed unless you register before the booking deadline.

If you miss the deadline, you can ask to join a ceremony in July 2025 by emailing the graduate information team at gradinfo@mmu.ac.uk. In your email, include:

    • the subject line — Missed graduation booking deadline
    • your student ID number

    Graduation eligibility

You must fulfill the following criteria to be eligible to attend your graduation ceremony:

You must have successfully completed your award by 5 July 2024.

You must have paid all tuition fees owed to the University. You will not receive any information for your ceremony if you owe outstanding tuition fees. This does not include any non-tuition fee debts. If you have outstanding tuition fees, please set up a payment plan by emailing the finance team at pay@mmu.ac.uk.

If you are entitled to a pass degree, or a higher qualification, you can attend graduation, even if you still have resits to do.

A pass degree is given when a student has passed at least 60 credits (half) of the final year of an undergraduate degree. A student would not be expected to attend graduation if they have achieved less than 60 credits in their final year.

For all other programmes, full completion is required to be eligible for graduation.

  • How to book your place

On your graduation invitation, please click the registration link to go to the ceremonies system. You will need to sign in using your MMU ID (e.g. 12345678@stu.mmu.ac.uk) and password and complete Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on your phone or other device if asked.

If you cannot remember your password, go to password recovery to reset it. This will reset your password against all MMU applications.

If you are unable to log in at all, please contact the Graduation Helpline, between 9am to 4pm, on 0161 247 5959 and we will be able to assist you.

If it has been over two years since you left Manchester Met, you no longer have access to your MMU email account, and you have deferred your Graduation attendance to this year, you will not have automatic access to the Ceremonies system. If you have not received an email from gradinfo@mmu.ac.uk to your personal email account to confirm the details of how you need to access the booking system, please contact us and we will set this up for you. We will also need to confirm the email for your login details. Please contact us on 0161 247 5959 if think you will need alternative access to the ceremonies system.

  • Do I have to attend my ceremony to receive my award?

No. Regardless of whether you join a ceremony or not, your degree is valid. Please let us know via the booking system if you don’t plan to attend. This is important to ensure that we have your correct postal address to send your degree certificate to.

Certificates are not handed out at graduation. They are processed and should reach you some time in the September following your ceremony. Your certificates will be posted to your permanent address on record. Due to the volume of award documents we need to process, it is important that you provide an address you know you will have access to up to 12 weeks after ceremonies take place.

The permanent address can be any address you consider your permanent residence and that you will have access to after you have received your final marks.  Current students can update their address via the online enrolment page. There is a button titled ‘Update Your Contact Details Only’. You will be prompted to login and then you can update your permanent address. If you are unable to access this page, please contact studenthub@mmu.ac.uk to update your permanent address.

Visit awards, certificates, transcripts and verifications for more information.

  • Special requirements and accessibility

All venues and rooms to prepare for graduation ceremonies are accessible, including rooms for ticket and robe collection and photography studios.

Please get in touch if you have any additional requirements.

British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation is available upon request. If you need BSL interpreters at your ceremony, please let us know when you register.

If you have any accessibility requirements, please email the graduation team at gradinfo@mmu.ac.uk and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

  • Can I choose an alternative ceremony date?

Unfortunately, we cannot allow you to choose your graduation date.

If you can’t join your ceremony due to exceptional circumstances such as illness, bereavement or pregnancy, please email us at gradinfo@mmu.ac.uk. Please use the subject line: Graduation ceremony alternative ceremony request followed by your student ID number.

We will try to accommodate requests wherever possible.
