Manchester Metropolitan University has one of the largest History programmes in the north of England, boasting an impressive track-record for the quality of its teaching and our internationally recognised staff research.

The Department offers a number of undergraduate degrees in History, including single honours and combined honours options. Taught or research based postgraduate degrees are available which offer a wide range of specialisms. The Department has particular expertise in Public History and Heritage through the Manchester Centre for Public History and Heritage

The research interests of History staff are wide ranging across time and place. Staff boast an impressive record of monograph publications and articles in leading peer-reviewed historical journals. History staff are also engaged in a number of enterprise and community outreach programmes, including hosting numerous conferences, offering an archaeology consultancy service, undertaking enrichment work with local schools, and contributing to public and community projects such as the Manchester History Festival.
