"I felt like a valued member of the institution and the community, and I’ve been very pleased with the whole experience"
Why did you choose to study your postgraduate course at Manchester Metropolitan University?

The MA course I chose is just one year old and seemed quite cutting edge and very in line with my interests, so I decided to go for it. I already had friends in the Manchester area, and the tuition, even for an international student like me, is much cheaper than the tuition rates I would have to pay for a masters course back home in the USA. It was an easy choice to come here when considering all of those factors.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

I really enjoy the fact that the classes are very small. Two of my classes are shared with other MA programs and are a bit larger, but the rest of my classes have just a handful of other students in them. This allows for a much deeper level of interaction with classmates and teachers, which really helps facilitate learning and understanding of course material. It’s great to be able to have that kind of access to my professors and to have such a comfortable classroom environment.

What has been the best thing about your postgraduate experience at the university, and why?

Everything has gone quite smoothly the whole time. I was worried initially that it would be difficult to be an international student and deal with all of the stuff related to that, but the university has made it very easy. Everything I had to do for my registration and to protect my immigration status has been clearly explained to me every step of the way.

What would you say to anyone thinking of studying for a postgraduate qualification at Manchester Metropolitan University?

I would tell them to go for it. Manchester Metropolitan University is unique in that students are treated as students, and as people, and not just as bodies to fill a classroom and pay tuition which is how many universities these days seem to treat their students. I’ve felt like a valued member of the institution and the community, and I’ve been very pleased with the whole experience.
