BA (Hons) Philosophy
"There is so much scope with all the topics covered by philosophy and it links beautifully with so many subjects that it feels like you’re not only doing a degree in philosophy but that you are also partaking in history, psychology and many other topics."
Philosophy allows you to provide well-rounded judgements on some of the most significant and controversial topics. It allows you to have opinions and these help you to add depth to your knowledge, there is no right or wrong answer which is great. There is so much scope with all the topics covered by philosophy and it links beautifully with so many subjects that it feels like you’re not only doing a degree in philosophy but that you are also partaking in history, psychology and many other topics.
My essay writing abilities have definitely improved, my ability to argue and develop my opinions has also improved. Although my academic skills have greatly developed, my ability to listen and understand the views of others have improved immensely. When you come to university there is such a broad range of people that your eyes are opened to the opinions of so many people, people with different backgrounds and lives, which really impacts the discussions in seminars.
My top tip for students that are going to study philosophy is to keep on top of notes, and do the reading provided.
I’m inspired by my desire to teach. Everything I do is in preparation for what will one day be my future career. Having a goal provides me with the drive I need to complete tasks, and strive for good grades. I am fortunate enough to love the degree that I am doing, which definitely makes my goal a lot more bearable.
The lecturers are great, they always make themselves available to you. Regardless of it being a course question or a personal question. They will always provide a meeting if necessary and they are always fast at getting back to you when you email. They are happy to check drafts of assignments and provide guidance.
