Can you tell us about your career journey?

After completing my BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance at Manchester Met, I completed my PGCE and have been teaching ever since. I have taught A-levels and managed BTEC courses in a sixth form college before lecturing at Manchester Met.

Tell us about your current role at Manchester Met…

I am a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance and teach on various units on the undergraduate programme. I also have several other non-teaching roles such as Level 4 Year Tutor, Unit Leader for Fundamentals of Financial Accounting, Academic Misconduct Investigator and International Link Tutor. I enjoy being with students the most.

How did your degree prepare you for your current role?

By the third my year of my Accounting and Finance degree, I realised I did not want to be an Accountant and wanted to go into education. It helped me develop certain transferable skills and achieve the qualification needed to progress on to the next stage of my career

What does diversity in Accounting, Finance & Banking mean to you?

That everyone should have a chance to take advantage of the opportunities that are available.

What are your greatest achievements so far?

Contributing to a students journey, as well as being the ‘AFB Connect 4 Champion’.

What advice would you give to students who aspire to a career in Accounting, Finance and Banking?

Take every opportunity, work hard and make the best of your time. Every experience counts and many skills are transferable, in particular perseverance, problem solving and teamwork.
