Airport pick up

How airport transfers work

We offer a free taxi transfer service for all new international students from Manchester Airport to any location in Greater Manchester.

To secure a place on the free airport taxi service, you will need to complete a booking request form at least two full working days in advance of your arrival. For example, you need to book by midday UK time on Wednesday at the latest for arrival the following Monday.

If your request is successful, you will receive an email with further instructions. If your booking request is not successful, you will be emailed information about organising independent travel to your accommodation.

The airport taxi service is open for bookings until 20th December 2023. It will then re-open for bookings after the winter break Wednesday 3rd January 2023.

Safe travels and we look forward to welcoming you to Manchester Met.

When and how to register

You’ll be able to register for the airport transfer service when your visa has been accepted and your flights have been confirmed.

You can book an airport transfer online. You will need to tell us:

  • your name
  • your Manchester Metropolitan student ID
  • your arrival date and time
  • your flight details, including flight number and airline
  • the terminal at which your flight will arrive
  • your destination address

You will be sent a confirmation email once your booking has been processed.

  • What to do when you get to the airport

If you’re using our airport transfer service, we will meet you once you’ve gone through passport control and collected your luggage. The time it takes to do this can vary, it’s usually around 1-2 hours after you’ve landed.

Use the Manchester Airport terminal guide to check which terminal you will arrive at.

After collecting your luggage, please exit the arrivals hall and go to the multi-storey car parks to meet the Club Cars driver.

Have your booking confirmation email and Manchester Metropolitan ID with you, as you will need to show this to the staff at Club Cars. You will need to let Club Cars know that you are a new Manchester Metropolitan student and that the University is paying for your journey. They will be expecting you and will take you to your accommodation.

  • What to do if you're making your own travel arrangements

If you decide to make your own way to your accommodation, or if you are not travelling through Manchester Airport, you can use public transport to reach the University. You can get a train or the Metrolink from the airport to Manchester city centre.

Taxis (black cabs) cost around £25.00 - £30.00 into Manchester. If you have not arranged an airport welcome you will need to pay for this yourself. Make sure that you bring Great British Pounds (£) with you, or that you withdraw cash from an ATM at the airport.

The University is unable to reimburse you for transport costs if you travel independently to your accommodation.
