Laptop loans Manchester Metropolitan University

We offer a laptop loan service to all staff and students at the University free of charge.

All Saints and Birley

Self-service laptop loans are available from two locations at All Saints: the Library and the second floor in Brooks building.

A seven-day laptop loan service is available from the All Saints Library only.

Which kind of laptop loan do you need?

I only need it for a couple of hours

I need it for a few days

  • Speak to Library staff on the desk nearest the laptop lockers, to borrow a laptop and charger for up to seven days
  • Use the service whenever the Library is open - Library opening times available here
  • Return the laptop and charger no later than closing time on the seventh day since you borrowed them.

You can easily reset your Library PIN on the Library website any time you like.

MMU Cheshire

The laptop loan service is available via the Print Services counter on the ground floor of The Student Zone, between 9am - 4.15pm, Monday - Friday. The service is available all year round (apart from Bank Holidays). There is no facility for collecting or returning laptops outside of the times given above - and you must return your laptop to the place from which you borrowed it.

There are currently no self-service laptop loans available from MMU Cheshire.

Need to reset your Library PIN?

You can easily reset your Library PIN on the Library website any time you like.

Logging in to your University IT account

To log into the University network PCs and other services such as email, Wi-Fi and the MyMMU portal, you will need to have your username and password.

  • Your username is your eight digit ID number shown on your card
  • If it is the first time you are logging in, then the password will be your date of birth but in the format DDMonYY
  • For example, if your date of birth is 2 February 1992, then your password would be 02Feb92

Please remember that your password is case sensitive.

Lynda

Lynda.com is an online video training resource available to all University staff and students.

This service is helping us make significant progress towards the University's vision for the future, which rightly places quality and employability as our top priorities.

The launch of Lynda at Manchester Metropolitan means that we now have over 125,000 high quality, professional video tutorials, readily available to use wherever and whenever you need them.

These resources cover a vast range of skills to enable staff and students to get more from the software we provide and to develop other business skills too.

Here's just a small taste of some of the topics and software covered:

  • IT – from day-to-day tasks using Office 2013 to coding in a variety of programming languages
  • Education – advice for classroom management, writing research papers and using Moodle
  • Design – get the best from Adobe Creative Suite or CAD, developing websites and 3D animation
  • Business – management, marketing, financial analysis or project management, it's all in there
  • Video & photography – shooting, production and editing, home videos to blockbuster movies!
  • Audio & music – recording, mastering, mixing and production using a range of software.

Lynda will help you stay up-to-date with the latest developments and offers self-paced learning to make you more proficient and employable.

Getting started

  • Go to www.lynda.com
  • Click on Log in, then choose 'Login through your organisation or school'
  • Enter www.mmu.ac.uk and click 'Go'
  • Enter your University ID and password and then 'Login'
