GMYJUP run a participation seminar for YJB staff in London

On the 14th June, Professor Hannah Smithson and Anna-Christina Jones ran a seminar on the value of participation in youth justice for the Youth Justice Board (YJB) at their offices in London.

Attended by both YJB and Ministry of Justice (MoJ) researchers, policymakers, and operational leads, the seminar covered both the academic rationale for participatory working with young people and our unique approach to academic-practitioner collaborations, enabled through our Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project.

Hannah and Anna covered how GMYJUP have pioneered the use of Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) to work collaboratively with young people in the justice system in Greater Manchester to develop a new framework of youth justice practice, called Participatory Youth Practice (PYP).

As the YJB continue to encourage participatory working with young people in the justice system, we look forward to working together with them to enable young people to contribute meaningfully to the development of youth justice policy and practice.
