An Evening of Urdu Poetry - presented by Manchester Writing School and Manchester Muslim Writers

, Geoffrey Manton Building, Rosamond St West, M15 6LL

The Manchester Writing School at Manchester Met will be celebrating the city’s recent designation as a UNESCO City of Literature with a series of events recognising International Mother Language Day.

We are pleased to welcome Zahid Hussain and the Manchester Muslim Writers who will be introducing Urdu-speaking poets from Manchester and beyond as part of Manchester Met’s first ever Mushaira—a traditional poetry symposium and forum for free expression. They will be joined by the Writing School’s Anjum Malik and special guests.

Poetry will be performed in Urdu and in English.

Manchester Muslim Writers was launched in 2009 with the aim of nurturing writers of Muslim origin in the art and craft of creative writing. Manchester Muslim Writers’ goal is to weave the narratives of Muslims into the tapestry of British life. In 2017, they launched the Young Manchester Muslim Writers group with Manchester City Council. http://muslimwriters.org.uk
