Thirteen recipients of the 2016-2017 Vice-Chancellor Scholarship have been recognised at a celebratory event with the Vice-Chancellor Professor Malcolm Press.

The University’s highly competitive Vice-Chancellor Scholarships are worth £5,000 each and are awarded to exceptional international students on merit. International students hoping to receive the scholarship are selected based on their previous academic achievements and how they will benefit from their degree.

The students, who represent eight countries including India, China, the US and Malaysia, met with the Vice-Chancellor to receive their scholarship certificates and take photos. The Vice-Chancellor also delivered a short speech, congratulating this year’s scholars and highlighting the important contribution that international students make to the University.

Jennifer Charles Luke, a scholarship recipient and MSc Advanced Physiotherapy student from India, said: “When I read about the Vice-Chancellor Scholarships, I was more than happy. Coming from a middle class family in India, studying abroad is like a dream. Being selected for a £5,000 scholarship was a huge relief and undoubtedly takes a load off my mind.”

Professor Jenny Watling, Pro-Vice Chancellor (International), attended the event and commented: “These well-deserving international scholars are excellent examples of the passion and quality of the students who are attracted to Manchester Metropolitan. We are pleased to have been able to assist them through the VC Scholarship Scheme and wish them all the best for the remainder of their studies at the University. I have no doubt that they all have bright futures ahead of them, and will become outstanding ambassadors for our University.”
