First glimpse of our Shakespeare bee!

You will have heard the buzz around campus that Manchester Metropolitan will host one of over 100 bees due to be placed around Manchester as part of Bee in the City.

Our Shakespeare-themed bee ‘To Bee or not to Bee’ will fly into All Saints Park on Sunday 22 July and we’re delighted to share a first picture of it before it starts its journey to campus.

The bee will sit on the grassed area just to the side of the stone memorial plinth that stands directly in front of the main gate entrance to All Saints Park and will be visible from Oxford Road.

Bee in the City is a public art exhibition and interactive trail that allows you to visit several landmarks, parks and public spaces across Greater Manchester and view each individually designed bee. You can get involved by downloading the map of all the bees on the Bee in the City website.

Manchester City Council will install the bee on Sunday night ready for the trail to begin on Monday 23 July.

Name our Manchester Metropolitan bee

We are buzzing to see the bee arrive on campus and for everyone at the University to take part in the trail – but our bee hasn’t got a name and we need your help.

The Shakespeare theme has been chosen to link to our excellent creative offerings at the University, so we need your name suggestions to show our #McrMetProud community spirit.

Please send all of your name ideas to internalcomms@mmu.ac.uk and the chosen name will be announced in the next two weeks. We would love to see the names complemented with a selfie of you and the bee – all of the best selfies and photographs will be shared over next nine weeks whilst the bee is on campus.
