MMU hosts major event on sustainability

The University is hosting a major event to explore how we can change the way we live, work and do business more sustainably.

High-profile speakers will debate responsible business and responsible living at the Keep Calm Prepare for Change event on Thursday, October 18 at MMU’s new Business School.

High-profile speakers Matthew Taylor CEO of the Royal Society of Arts and Ben Page CEO of Ipsos Mori are joining others from business and different communities.

Matthew a former director of the centre-left think tank, the Institute for Public Policy Research, is a frequent media commentator on policy and political issues, and has written for The Guardian, The Observer, New Statesman and Prospect.

The programme comprises a panel debate, workshop presentations and lecture all delivered by speakers from national and local businesses, community projects and entrepreneurs, including Bruntwood, Incredible Edibles, BT, United Utilities, the Watermill and Lancashire Wildlife Trust.

The workshop sessions aim to share experience and new developments from those who have delivered practically, and will offer you the chance to explore how your idea or project can grow into a sustainable business. Come to listen, come to talk, but above all come with a proposition that can be developed over the next 12 months and the RSA North West Fellows will help you develop it.

Consumer behaviour

The lecture session, chaired by Professor Ruth Ashford, and given by Matthew Taylor and Ben Page will investigate how businesses, communities and organisations can learn from the past and the challenges of the triple bottom line. The question of whether consumers can influence organisations and business to be more sustainable will also be discussed.

The Keep Calm Prepare for Change event is being run in partnership between the RSA, MMU, the University of Manchester, Manchester Corridor and Business in the Community.
