Progress to Postgrad Week
19 - 23 February 2018

Being a postgraduate student means challenging existing ideas. Deconstructing arguments to push boundaries. Driving ideas forward to shape future thinking.

Media channels perpetuate fake news. Cryptocurrencies are necessary. Multi-million pound stadiums drive economic growth.

5 themes. 23 expert speakers. A taste of postgrad at Manchester Met.

The Manchester Spirit: A Political & Cultural Powerhouse
Talks on this theme centre around Manchester and the unwavering spirit at the heart of the Mancunian identity. Discover topics such as the Suffragettes and the centenary of Votes for Woman, the Psychology of Raving, and the impact of Health Devolution on Greater Manchester.
Trump’s America: The Man, The Myth, The Media
Trump’s presidency has brought with it a new political landscape (and an accompanying new political vocabulary). These talks explore what it means to be a leader in today’s world, Trump’s relationships with the media, and of course, fake news.
Psychoactive Substances: The Science and The Psychology
These sessions will look at tackling the use of ‘Spice’ in Greater Manchester. We’ll explore the psychology of substance abuse and addictive behaviours, with a solution-orientated approach.
Industry 4.0: 3D Printing, Cryptocurrency, and Marketing in the Digital Age
We are entering the age of ‘Industry 4.0’ – or the new industrial revolution. These sessions focus on the disruptive technologies at the heart of changing our world and the way we work. Discover innovations from 3D printing and digital manufacturing, to cryptocurrencies, and how marketers are using our digital footprints to sell products and services. We’ll uncover the challenges and the opportunities we face in the digital age.
Global Sporting City
Manchester is home to some of the greatest sporting achievements throughout this country’s history. As one of the nation’s leading regions for sport, Manchester continues to play a prominent role in driving sport on a national and international scale. Sessions within this theme will look at the business of sporting mega-events along with the diagnosis and treatment of athletic injuries.
