  • Research Expertise, Publications & Grants

    Research expertise

I am interested in body image and its impact on health-related behaviours. The third edition of my book Body Image: Understanding Body Dissatisfaction in Men Women and Children was published in October 2016, and an edited book entitled Chemically Modified Bodies (with Dr Matthew Hall and Prof Brendan Gough) in August 2016.  I am currently involved in various projects linking body image to smoking cessation, sun tanning, and exercise, and recently led work investigating impact of an age-appearance morphing programme on smoking cessation. I am also interested in smoking prevention and have just completed a Medical Research Council funded project on smoking prevention.

    Academic collaborations

I am currently involved in collaborative projects with researchers at University of Leeds, University of Manchester, Staffordshire University, Leeds Beckett University, University of Derby, San Diego State University, and Canberra University, Australia.
