The Registrar’s Office comprises Professor Karen Moore, the Registrar and her Executive PA, Tina Barrett.
Karen Moore took on the post of Registrar in May 2014. She is responsible for Student and Academic Services (SAS), comprising of central SAS departments, all faculty departmental administrations and technical staff.
Her portfolio is a broad one, providing senior leadership and management for central and faculty-based SAS professional services – administrative, academic support, committee, secretarial, clerical and technical. Services include student, course, administration and systems: recruitment and admissions, timetabling, assessment, graduation, quality and standards, employability, partnerships, widening participation, academic staff development, and records management. As Clerk to the Board of Governors, Karen is responsible for support to the Board, its committees, and members of the Board.
Formerly Director of Faculty SAS and Deputy Registrar, Karen led the development of faculty-based professional administrative and technical services. She has held a variety of roles over 20 years and has diverse breadth of experience in academic and professional services, leading on large-scale change management and continuous improvement of services to students and faculties. Karen has extensive governance experience, particularly in the FE-sector and is currently Chair of Corporation for the Cheadle and Marple College Network.
Karen Moore is a physics graduate of the University of Nottingham and holds a PhD in solid state physics from the University of Twente in Holland. She has a comprehensive research and teaching background and is a former academic Head of Department. Karen was a member of HEFCE’s National Widening Participation Coordination Team for eight years, responsible for supporting the HEFCE’s widening participation strategy and Aimhigher partnerships, working with universities and colleges in the region.
