The forgotten part of biodiversity: Conservation genetics from species to ecosystems

Most people think of “conserving biodiversity” as conserving individual iconic species or perhaps, groups of species in a specific environment. Yet underlying all of the biological diversity we see around us is an even greater variation, for every one of the species we see, will have some level of genetic variation. Using examples from both agricultural systems and the tropics, my talk will explore how genetic variation is not only important in the management of individual species, but may also influence how entire ecosystems assemble and how species interact.

Refreshments will be available from 17:30 with the talk starting at 18:00. This will last around 45 minutes and will be followed by a Q&A session and a drinks reception. Please email engage@mmu.ac.uk if you have any questions.
