DEPARTMENTS in the Faculty of Science and Engineering have achieved huge rises in this year’s Guardian University Guide.
Computer Science has risen 30 places, from number 89 in 2016 to number 59 in 2017, while in the Engineering: Electronic and Electrical section we have risen 19 places to enter the top 20 at number 18.
Another big riser was Geography and Environmental Management, which went up 15 places from 62 to 47. And Mechanical Engineering has risen 7 places to 42.
The University as a whole has risen 17 places in the Guardian’s league table of UK universities, climbing from 77th place to 60th in the 2017 rankings.
The rise follows success earlier this year in the Complete University Guide rankings where the University recorded the largest rise of any UK university.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Malcolm Press said: “Higher education is a transformative opportunity for young people. At Manchester Metropolitan University, we are driven by ambition for our students. We offer them innovative and flexible degree programmes, including degree apprenticeships, that will enable their success in a fast-paced and ever-changing world. The Guardian University League Table places particular emphasis on the quality of the student experience, so rising so many places is a particularly gratifying endorsement of our approach.”
