Try something new with our Active Extra courses!

Have you ever wanted to try a new sport but never seem to get round to doing it? Involved with something when you were younger and would like to get back in to it?  

Whether you're a new or returning student, our coach-led short courses are a great way to build or perfect your skills, get active and most importantly, have fun.

What do we offer?

We deliver a range of activities throughout the year including Skiing, Snowboarding, Archery, Wakeboarding and more. All of our courses are delivered over a 3 - 8 week block and start from as low as £20 for the full block.

We provide the transport to and from the venue aswell as all the equipment you need to get involved. It really has never been easier to try out a new sport!

 

Manchester

Active Extra Karting (4 weeks)

We are pleased to announce the first introductory programme for students and staff of Manchester Metropolitan University to experience and learn the art of motorsport at its base level.

The course will span four weeks, consisting of 30-minute karting sessions on the track and theory off track, designed to give students the basic knowledge of driving, racing lines, braking and cornering techniques, and race craft.

Each week, students will build up their knowledge of the TeamSport Manchester circuit until they are put to the ultimate test in their final week with a Mini Grand Prix Race!

Below is an outline of what the programme will contain and how it will develop students over the four weeks.

 

Week 1: Karting 101

Week 2: Slow is Fast

Week 3: The art of the Overtake

Week 4: Race Day

 

Where does it take place?

Manchester Victoria Station, Hunts Bank, Manchester M3 1NX

What equipment will I need?

All equipment will be provided, please ensure that you are wearing suitable footwear i.e. trainers or flat shoes that can be fastened with laces or Velcro.

When does it start?

Our course begins on Tuesday 23rd January 2018 and will run for 4 weeks. Session dates and times are:

23rd Jan @ 6:30 - 8:30 pm

30th Jan @ 6:45 - 8:45 pm

6th Feb @ 7:00 - 9:00 pm

13th Feb @ 7:00 - 9:00 pm

 

How much does it cost?

It costs £65.00 for the Four-week course.

Active Extra Skiing (3 Weeks)

Our Three-week beginner skiing lessons will help you construct a solid foundation of fundamental skills, such as getting a feel for your skis, learning to snowplough and link those to turns, so that once you leave you will feel like a confident skier.

Where does it take place?

Our course takes place at Chill Factore, Trafford Way, Trafford Quays Leisure Village, Manchester M41 7JA.

How Do I get there?

Transport is provided from the Students' Union. It will leave at 2pm and return from Chill Factore at 5.15pm. Alternative travel arrangements are below

Car

The Chill Factore is less than a four-mile drive from the city centre.  The venue is just off the M60 (Junction 10) and offers free parking.

Bus

There are a number of buses that run between the city centre and the Trafford Centre bus station.  The most frequent buses are the 250, 251 and X50 that leave from Piccadilly Gardens. For a route map and bus times, visit the TFGM website. http://www.tfgm.com/journey_planning/Pages/default.aspx 

Tram

The Metrolink tram from Manchester Piccadilly train station to Altrincham, alighting at Stretford station and boarding the Metrolink shuttle bus to the Trafford Centre.  For times, visit the Metrolink website.

What equipment will I need?

All equipment will be provided, but please ensure that you wear comfortable sportswear. Gloves won’t be provided so you need to bring your own or you will be refused entry to the slopes.

When does it start?

Our course begins Wednesday the 7th February and runs until 21st of February (3weeks) 3pm – 5pm.

How much is it?

It costs £55.00 for the Three-week course.

Active Extra Tennis (6 Weeks)

Whether you’re aiming to be the next Wimbledon champion, or simply want to learn a new sport, our affordable tennis lessons are perfect for adults and juniors of all abilities. All of our tennis lessons follow the latest Lawn Tennis Association guidelines and are delivered by licensed and registered LTA coaches.

Our lessons suit either those picking up a racket for the first time or those who want to hone their skills. Our adult tennis lessons also provide a great place to make lifelong friends.

What equipment will I need?

All equipment will be provided, just make sure you wear suitable trainers to take part in the 6 week programme.

 

When does it start?

 Our course begins on Wednesday 31st January 2018 and will run for 6 weeks. Session dates and times are:

Wed 7th February 7pm – 8pm

Wed 14th February 7pm – 8pm

 

Wed 7th March 7pm – 8pm
