Make Sport Happen

Sport is the single biggest sector of volunteering in the UK. Every year, more than one fifth of the 15 million people who volunteer regularly, do so in sport. That is 3.2 million people in total.

By getting involved, you will be joining a strong demographic group.  Over a quarter of these volunteers are between 16 and 24: a group that is particularly valued for injecting new ideas and energy and an enthusiastic source of support.

Stand out from the crowd

It is not just spectators and players who enjoy the benefits benefit of sport; there are loads of benefits associated with sports volunteering.

Volunteering is a fantastic way for you to:

  • Learn new skills
  • Personal development
  • Improve your self confidence
  • Enhance your university life and experiences
  • A sense of reward and achievement
  • Make new friends and enhance your social life

Volunteering in sport during your time at University is great for your CV and can have a fantastic impact on kick starting your future career, including:

  • The opportunity to gain new and build on your existing employability skills, such as communication and leadership.
  • Combine your degree with first-hand experience
  • Network and build contacts in the industry
  • Build your CV and increase your employability

If that is not enough motivation, on average graduates involved with sports volunteering earn around £5000 more than those that are not.

Give something back

Volunteers and coaches play a vital role in community sport and without the time, enthusiasm and dedication of these volunteers, who Make Sport Happen, many clubs and sports activities would not be able to run.

Volunteering in sport is a great way to:

  • Give something back to the local community
  • Develop a sense of pride and achievement
  • Become involved in and help influence the local community
  • Experience a rewarding use of your leisure time
