Keen hiker, theatre goer, and film watcher. Also enjoy literature and art. Balances my obsessive scientist work life!
To open up minds to new ideas and challenges. To pass on my experience and expertise.
Learning by doing is so much more effective than just reading or hearing about it.
By asking questions and showing that, in most cases, you actuallly do know the answer.

The 21st Century is the Century of Biology. Therefore, we need people who know how to use microorganisms for the good of the environment and humanity.
Applications of expanded bed biofilm reactor technonogy, for water and wastewater treatment, fermentation, or biocatalysis.
Expanded bed biofilm reactor (EBBR) technonogy process development for production of fuel ethanol, enzymes, plant cell metabolites, and antibiotics; as well as wastewater treatment.
Currently supervising a project to develop an anammox process based on EBBR technology.
Co-supervisor on projects to develop functional nanomaterials for detection and destruction of pollutants in water.
Development of processes using expanded bed biofilm reactor technology, e.g. for water or wastewater treatment (nitrification, denitrification, anaerobic digestion, oestrogen removal), fermentation or biocatalysis.
