“Thank you to everyone who completed the 2017 Staff Survey. The survey is an important mechanism through which senior members of the University can hear the collective views of staff, so I am pleased that we achieved a response rate of 63%. My emphasis now to colleagues is to distil the key messages and to embed them into action plans that will be developed across the University. It is important that by the time we undertake the next staff survey we can see an improvement in the areas of greatest concern.”
In spring, you were invited to contribute to a University-wide employee engagement survey. The survey, which was open between 6th March and 18th April 2017, was your opportunity to tell us how you feel about working at Manchester Metropolitan University, giving your views and opinions on what we do well, and in what areas we might make improvements.

It was designed in conjunction with ORC International, an independent business intelligence company. ORC International are market leaders in the field of engagement research and work with over 300 organisations across all sectors, including Higher Education.
Out of 3925 colleagues, over 2400 took part, representing 63% of our total staff number.

Throughout July, we will be reflecting on the headline scores and exploring in more depth what the results mean. We will also carefully consider the helpful qualitative feedback that many staff provided.
In July and August, key representatives within the faculties and professional services areas will lead the development of their own local action plans by holding team meetings and focus groups to discuss their results and generate ideas that will support improvements.
A University-wide action plan will be developed by the Employee Engagement Strategy Group in August, which will feed into the creation of bespoke action plans, developed with staff at a local level.
