Introduction

Chemistry is often called ‘the central science’ as it overlaps with, and makes vital contributions to, a range of sciences. Chemistry considers the behaviour and properties of matter, from the atomic level to the macro-scale, and how these affect our daily lives, from health and wellbeing to minimising environmental harm and developing new sources of energy.

You can take the four-year route, spending a year studying overseas in Europe, North America or Australia, or boost your career prospects with a 9-12 month placement.

Intergrated Masters

You can choose to move onto the integrated master's degree (MChem), providing you are working at a high enough standard, at the end of Year 2.

Research-Informed Teaching

Our research activities directly inform our teaching. These focus on global problems such as creating a sustainable and healthy future, including hydrogen fuel cells, biosensors, drug discovery, green chemistry and the monitoring of environmental change.
