Economics is everywhere, from day-to-day decision-making to how governments, private firms and households allocate resources. It’s a discipline at the heart of government, banking, corporate finance and insurance.

On our economics course, you’ll examine the economic rationale of the choices firms and households make and gain an insight into how they affect every aspect of our lives. Learning from various schools of thought, including post-crash and alternative perspectives, you’ll get the chance to pursue your own research in these fascinating areas. You’ll gain an in-depth knowledge of the latest theories, practices and key concepts and develop the practical skills needed to become an economist.

Study your way

All our students have the option to study abroad or complete a placement year. You will enrol onto a three-year course and then decide, in your second year, which option is best for you.

Choose from one of our international partner institutions, and complete a year of your studies abroad, gaining insight into global industries. You can also learn on the job with a 12-month placement where you can gain real-world insight into your chosen field.

Pick your pathway

In your first year of study, you will enrol onto the BA (Hons) course. In your second year you can choose to continue with the BA (Hons) option, or study for the BSc (Hons) degree.

If you want to specialise in quantitative economics, the BSc (Hons) route is the best option. If you stay on the BA (Hons) route, you will use both discursive and statistical methods to explore a broad range of economics challenges.

Economics is a course for everyone, regardless of background. Economics looks at the world from multiple different points of view. Whilst some units are harder than others, there is something for everyone.
